Eco Water Handler to Organic Agriculture Farming

The youth group of eight members working as “Eco Waste Handler” has ventured into organic agriculture farming known as “Organic Corner” as an alternate sources of income and livelihood in the wake of pandemic.
The youth group have leased in 14 acres of land in Ruteyjab village under Rubesa gewog in Wangduephodrang and started organic vegetable cultivation with an initial financial assistance from the RGOB implemented projects i.e., Green Climate Fund(GCF) and Economic Contingency Plan(ECP) through the close technical support of Wangdue Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector and Gewog Agriculture Extension Officer of Rubesa Gewog. The Dzongkhag has provided them with the hands on training and demonstration on crop cultivation techniques besides providing inputs support such as green houses, drip irrigation system, water harvesting pond and land development.

One of the youth members said that getting into agriculture farming was a completely different experience so far. It has not only engaged them during the pandemic but also made them to realize the difficulties faced by the farmers and a huge future opportunities that lie ahead in the agriculture sector even after the pandemic.
